The K-Drama, Doom At Your Service

Move aside Samsung and Hyundai! We have one more important export from South Korea – K-dramas!

Until now you would have heard a lot about the hardware and software prowess of this small country, but of late South Korea has emerged as an entertainment hub too. The latest export is the romantic drama Doom At Your Service.

Here are the top 5 reasons you should watch Doom At Your Service. We are sure you too, just like us, would love it!

The Plot

The story revolves around the life of a young girl who is not very far away from misfortune. Having lost her parents early in her life in a car accident, she is supported and raised by her aunt and her husband. Soon she grows up and starts working as an editor, but her misfortune does not leave her back. She is diagnosed with a brain tumour and her doctor gives her just 100 days to live! This is when she vents out her frustration against the world and wishes that the world meets its destruction.

That’s when doom, disguised as a human, meets her and makes a pact. She gets to live her last 100 days the way she wants to and on the last day, Doom gets to take her soul and end her misery forever.

Now, the real twist happens when Doom develops feelings for her. What happens ultimately? We aren’t revealing, as you will get the answer to this question in the finale episode.

The Cast

Dong Kyung (brilliantly played by top S. Korean actress Park Bo-Young) and Doom as Myeol Mang (played by singer-actor Seo In-Guk) are perfect! While Park Bo-Young is already an established actress in Korea, Seo In-Guk too is a well-known singer-actor. The rest of the characters are also aptly chosen and do perfect justice to the plot. We especially liked the character of Dong’s doctor who is surprised not to see any ill effects of the brain tumour as the 100-day deadline appears close. Instead of seeing the ill effects, the doctor sees all positive and really starts doubting his diagnostic ability.

The Drama

Let’s be honest, Doom At Your Service is a romantic drama. Don’t be misled to believe that the word Doom in its title has anything to do with action sequences and fight scenes. In fact, there is not a single action scene in the entire series! It is all about the mental turmoil, especially once Myeol Mang (Doom) reveals that he has developed feelings towards Dong. On one side he is pulled by his mission (to take away Dong’s soul forever) and on the other side his love for his victim! We must admit that the drama is simply too good!

The Chemistry

Doom At Your Service is what you get when you put together two fine actors –Park Bo-Young and Seo In-Guk! While Park is no stranger to such K-Dramas as she already has some successful stints under her belt like Oh My Ghost, Strong Woman Bong Soon and Abyss, it is Seo In-Guk who really impresses us. The singer-actor does perfect justice to the character of Doom which he portrays in the series. Coincidently, Seo In-Guk also played roles in the three series that made Park Bo-Young famous, but as cameos and not lead roles! Their on-screen chemistry is simply awesome and sometimes when they don’t appear on the screen together, you actually wait to see them reunite! The other cast too is very effectively and accurately chosen to do justice to the character they play.

The Finale

While we don’t want to reveal too much about the finale episode and how the series ends, the last episode sees the final twist in the story. We are sure that the moment you watch this finale episode and the series ends, you will start yearning for more! It kind of creates a vacuum in your life which is difficult to be filled so soon!

Just a word of caution, actually two!

One, this is an absolute romantic drama, so don’t get fooled by the word ‘Doom’ in its title. There is absolutely no gunfight, fist fight or raining bullets throughout the show. And two, it may be a bit difficult for you to catch up on the names of the characters initially. But by the end of the first episode, you will get over this difficulty too!

The final Verdict – One Doom at your service is a ‘must watch’ and two K-Dramas are here to stay!
