IED Blast at Sukma: In a tragic incident near Dondra in the Konta police station area of Sukma district, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Girpunje was martyred in a pressure IED explosion laid by Naxals. On Monday morning, he had set out on a foot patrol along the Konta–Errabore route with a security team. The patrol was conducted in anticipation of possible Naxal activities in view of the Bharat Bandh called for June 10.
During the patrol, a sudden pressure IED explosion occurred near Dondra, seriously injuring ASP Girpunje. Several other security personnel, including the SDPO of Konta and the station in-charge, were also injured in the incident.

All injured were immediately taken to Konta Hospital, where ASP Akash Rao’s condition remained extremely critical. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The other injured personnel are receiving primary treatment in Konta, with preparations underway to refer some of them to Raipur for advanced medical care.
IED Blast at Sukma: Following the incident, security in the area has been further intensified, and a search operation is ongoing to locate the Naxals responsible. A wave of grief has swept through the police and administrative departments.
