Gold jewellery has long been an extremely integral part of our lives, we look at it as more than adornment. Throughout history it has been woven into the weft and weave of our cultural makeup. So many of our rituals and traditions involve gold, and it is in fact, deeply connected with our religious beliefs as well. A good example of this is Akshay Tritiya, a festival that is celebrated in Hindu households around the world. One of the biggest parts of this festival mist be the celebration of all that is bountiful, and what better way to mark this than by buying beautiful gold Jewellery?
Akshaya Tritiya, which is also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is celebrated on Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya. On this auspicious day, it is believed that the sun and the moon are at their planetary best. Akshaya means something that cannot be destroyed and Tritiya is the third date in the Hindu month it is observed as an auspicious time regionally by Hindus and Jains in India and Nepal, It signifies the “third day of unending prosperity.

Your favourite saree and jewellery
I have many favourite sarees, but my wedding saree is my favourite. It’s a bright yellow-orange pattu saree, I love the colour and obviously, it has a sentimental attachment, too. And no matter how many times I repeat it, it looks just as lovely, and everyone comments on it! As for jewellery, I’ve always loved finger rings, so my ring collection is probably my favourite.
A piece of jewellery that you hold close
I have these traditional gold jhumkas that my mom wore during her childhood. They are neither too small nor too big, so it’s perfect for everyday wear. And I love the design because it’s so simple and traditional unlike the heavier pieces you get these days
The last piece of jewellery you purchased…
The last few pieces were all gifted! So I’m looking forward to buying something special for myself now.
Never leave your home without… I can’t leave home without earrings. Every outfit of mine needs long earrings!
Plans for Akshaya Tritiya
I’m looking to buy some classic and timeless pieces this year. I buy necklaces or earrings, but this time I’m looking to buy gold bangles or bracelets that can be worn for multiple occasions.

Clothes and accessories have replaced the regular buying of gold on Akshaya Tritiya this year. And this kind of summer shopping is compulsory for girls, we just need any reason, but the auspicious day is the perfect excuse to go bling shopping. This year, I’ve ordered a sapphire ring, which also happens to be my birthstone. I want to buy more pieces that I can wear easily every day.

I’m originally from Bombay and never really knew the significance of Akshaya Tritiya till I moved to Hyderabad. But now after being here for so many years I too have realised that buying gold on this day is considered extremely auspicious and a harbinger of good fortune and prosperity. Having said that, this year I’ve decided to refrain from buying anything.

Anything done on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya will be multiplied, amplified and magnified manifold. Most Indians buy gold, get married and begin new ventures on this day. I’m, too, planning to buy Victoria’s jewellery, which is studded with diamonds and stone metals.
