Bilaspur ll The Honorable Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, Mr. Ramesh Sinha, conducted a surprise inspection of the Central Jail located in Bilaspur today. During this, he inspected the men’s and women’s prisons in the jail. While interacting with the prisoners, he inquired about basic facilities and arrangements, like health, treatment, and medicines. During his visit to the prison, he received information about food and cleanliness. Moreover, he sought information regarding the crimes from the prisoners for which they were imprisoned. He praised the cleanliness and gave instructions to prepare a list of women prisoners living in jail with children. He also took information of the prisoners according to Section 432 of the CrPC. He also asked women prisoners living in jail with children about facilities related to education, sports, and health for their children and directed the officials to make the necessary improvements.

The Chief Justice Mr. Ramesh Sinha asked the Jail Superintendent about jail capacity and prisoners. The superintendent stated that the capacity of Central Jail Bilaspur is to hold 2290 prisoners. There are currently 3153 prisoners in the jail: 2946 males and 207 females. On this, the Honorable Chief Justice Mr. Ramesh Sinha directed the Jail Superintendent, Central Jail, Bilaspur, to quickly prepare a list of undertrial prisoners for minor crimes. The Chief Justice, Mr. Ramesh Sinha, inquired about the legal services being provided to the prisoners in the Central Jail, Bilaspur, and directed that the prisoners should be given actual knowledge of the law in simple language so that their lives improve in the future and they do not turn towards crime.

Notably, this was the third consecutive day of a surprise inspection by the Honorable Chief Justice Mr.Ramesh Sinha. Registrar General of the High Court Mr. Arvind Kumar Verma, District and Sessions Judge, Bilaspur, Mr. Ashok Kumar Sahu, District Magistrate, Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Mr. Santosh Singh were present at the surprise inspection along with additional registrar cum principal private secretary to the judge Mr. N. Subramaniam. It is to be noted that Honourable Chief Justice Mr. Ramesh Sinha has spent only 03 months in the Chhattisgarh High Court and during his 03 months tenure he has directed all the District Courts located in Raipur Bilaspur, Kanker, Jagdalpur Dantewada, Korba, Katghora, Mungeli and Janjgir-Champa to rectify their essential works at the earliest.
