National Statistical Office (NSO) was established by the Government of India in 1950 to meet the need for policy planning and other statistical data. The data from various surveys conducted by National Statistical Office is used by various departments of the Government of India, State governments and other national and international agencies for policy planning, research purposes, etc.
In this connection, Zonal Review Meeting of West Zone, Nagpur was organized at Hotel Babylon International, VIP Road. Raipur on 27.10.2021 to review the progress of various surveys conducted by National Statistical Office
Shri R.C. Gautam, Deputy Director General and Zonal Head attended the meeting as Head of West Zone, Nagpur. In his welcome address, R.C. Gautam, Deputy Director General while welcoming senior officials said that the aim of this meet is very important in terms of quality aspects of data collection of at the surveys so that it reflects true picture of Indian economy. These data are the backbone of all planning and policy of Central as well as State Govts. He told that various technical aspects of surveys (like operational problems, response of people, training & skill development of field functionaries) and other admn issues are included in the agenda of the meeting
The meeting was chaired by Shri SL Menaria, Additional Director General, Division. Headquarters, National Statistical Office, New Delhi. Presiding over the meeting, Shri S.L. Menaria, Additional Director General in his Presidential address said that this meeting was long due to disruption caused by Covid-19 pandemic and asked the gathering to observe two minutes silence for our colleagues we lost to Covid-19. He emphasized that despite severe resource crunch faced by Govt of India, our organization was successful in avoiding vacuum of data. Despite Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and lockdowns, we were able to release CPI data and backlog data. He told that due to Covid-19 pandemic, we had to defer ASSE (Annual Survey of Service Sector Enterprises), HCES (Household Consumption and Expenditure Survey) and 79 round of Socio-economic survey. All efforts are being made to launch 79 round of Socio-economic survey wef. 01 January, 2022 and other two new surveys at the earliest. He reiterated the need of quality check of data at macro level and grooming of our enumerators and officers for proper quality check mechanism at macro level. He told the gathering that as directed by Niti Ayog, PMO and Ministry of Finance, National Statistical Office will soon be able to provide real time data within timeline through use of digital resources.
Senior officials of the Division Headquarters, New Delhi along with senior officials of the Indian Statistical Service posted in the National Statistical Offices located in the states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat under West Zone participated in the Zonal Review Meeting From different states, mainly Shri S.K. Bhanawat, Deputy Director General/Head of Office, Ahmedabad, Ms. Supriya Roy, DDG/Head of Office, Mumbal, Shri Satyajit Paul, Deputy Director General (Socio-economic Survey), New Delhi, Shri Anindya Banerjee, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Statistics), Faridabad participated in the meeting
The meeting was organized by Shn Roshan Lal Sahu, Deputy Director General National Statistical Office, Raipur on behalf of Regional Office, Raipur Shri Roshan Lal Sahu, Deputy Director General thanked the senior officials from different states and said that it is proud moment for the State of Chhattisgarh to host the Zonal Review Meeting of the Western Zone and expressed gratitude to Additional Director General, Division Hqr, New Delhi and Zonal Head, West Zone, Nagpur for giving this opportunity
Progress of Annual Survey of Industries, Socio-Economic Survey, Agricultural Statistics, Urban Frame Survey, Wholesale Price Index, Consumer Price Index, Periodic Labor Force Survey, Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises etc was reviewed in the meeting in which technical and practical aspects of surveys were discussed in detail. Also, in order to improve the efficiency of the organization, the internal administrative matters of National Statistical Offices located in the West Zone region were also reviewed in detail.
