Entertainment: “Venom 3: The Last Dance”, the final installment of Sony’s Marvel-inspired franchise starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, debuted with a worldwide box office total of $175 million. While the U.S. opening was softer than anticipated, bringing in $51 million, international markets provided a solid boost, contributing $124 million.
With a production budget of $120 million before marketing, the film relies heavily on global ticket sales to cover costs, especially since theaters retain roughly half of all ticket revenue.
“Venom 3 is third-largest Hollywood release after “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”
Internationally, “Venom 3: The Last Dance” opened as the third-largest Hollywood release in 2024, trailing only “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”. China emerged as a strong contributor, generating $46 million over five days, making it the highest-grossing superhero release in the region since “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in 2019.
Previous ‘Venom ‘ films saw significant returns, with the first installment earning $856 million globally and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” reaching over $500 million worldwide. Despite this success, the weekend saw stiff competition. Universal and DreamWorks’ animated feature, “The Wild Robot”, collected $17.5 million across 79 countries, bringing its global earnings to $232 million.
Paramount’s horror sequel, ‘Smile 2’, which is screening in 67 countries, added $12.6 million, pushing its overseas revenue to $83.7 million, from a modest budget of $28 million.
This surge of international box office activity highlights the crucial role global audiences play in Hollywood’s revenue, particularly in an increasingly competitive landscape.
